SAVING SIGHT AROUND THE WORLD, ONE EYE AT A TIME
- Dr. Jonathan C. Song, director of the Cornea Institute in The Vision Center, has again demonstrated his compassion and commitment to treating complex eye diseases with cataract surgeries and corneal transplantations around the world.
- In his latest adventure, Dr. Song was off to Syria with ORBIS International - The Flying Eye Hospital. Dr. Song’s specialty, corneal surgery in young children, is rarely done outside of the industrialized nations because it requires highly advanced training and complex surgical tools.
- Dr. Song is one of the few American physicians ever invited to perform eye surgery in Syria. During this trip, he trained three physicians and 25 other health professionals while performing surgery himself. Despite cultural and political differences in Syria and Iraq, surgeons received permission to cross the Syrian border to evaluate Dr. Song's techniques.
